A Time Out

When we are so stressed up, or so overworked, we need to take some time off.

Many people say, having a time out does not solve their problems. For example, when we are so stressed up with so much work and responsibility, we should take some time out.

Actually taking some time out from daily chores that are stressful can be likened to the following:

If we are carrying some luggage that are heavy, from one place to another, sometimes putting them down and relaxing our arms would be a nice break, before we continue to carry them again.

Similarly, we need to take some time out from our chores, to relax our mind and "recharge" our energy.

Vision and Focus

In our work we need to have vision and focus in doing it.

A good analogy to it is like knowing a destination to go to, and having the right medium (eg a car) to get there.

If we do not have a destination and a route, we are like driving a car aimlessly, not knowing where we are going. Similarly, at work, whatever we do, we need to have a vision (like a destination) and proper way (like driving) to achieve it.

Not doing anything despite knowing a target (or vision), is like knowing our destination, but we just stay put, and do not drive at all.

As much as we need to know our vision, we need to focus our efforts in achieving it, just like knowing a destination that we want to go to, we need to drive and focu on the route.

Life is Life a Train Ride

We always hear people say that life is a journey. That is very true.

Many times I tell people that life is like  a train ride. We start from the departing station, then we head towards our destination. The only problem with this train ride, we are not really sure how long it is, but we kinda know our destination, death.

Along the journey, we may come across some beautiful stations, or some intersections that give some options. Similarly in life, there were times that were  we enjoyed and there were times that we didn't enjoy. Whatever they are, they are now in the past, just like the stations that we stopped by, and left.

In life, there were times when we were given some options, for example to further our study and to work, to work or to resign and focus on the family... Just like  at the stations where there were intersections and given the option to follow route A or route B, once we opted for one, we cannot go back to the other.

You Degree Is Like Your Driving Licence

I used to tell my students that getting a degree is like getting a driving licence.

When we get a car driving licence, the licence does not limit us to only driving cheap cars. It's up to us to work hard and gain confidence to drive bigger and more expensive cars, such as an MPV or a mercedes benz instead of a cheaper compact car.

A degree too is a licence for us to get a job. If we want to get good paying jobs, we need to improve and  increase our skill sets. Only we ourselves set the limit to what we can achieve. Good luck!

The Tip of the Iceberg

From our science classes we know that the iceberg that  we can see above the sea level is only 10% its actual size. From this we normally hear people say, "it's only the tip of the iceberg", or "the problems that we face is only the tip of the iceberg", meaning the real problems are much more.

Using an iceberg ("the tip of the iceberg" to be precise) is one example of using an analogy.

We can also say "the wealth that you see is only the tip of the iceberg", meaning the actual wealth is much more than that!! 😃

A Good Cook vs a Good Writer

We know that we cannot become a good cook if we only keep collecting cookbooks. These cookbooks will definitely help us in our cooking, but it's the actual act of cooking, and keep on cooking that can help us become a good cook.

Similarly, to be a writer, we cannot rely on reading a lot and reading about how to write. Like cooking, we have to actually write, in our effort to be a writer!
