You Degree Is Like Your Driving Licence

I used to tell my students that getting a degree is like getting a driving licence.

When we get a car driving licence, the licence does not limit us to only driving cheap cars. It's up to us to work hard and gain confidence to drive bigger and more expensive cars, such as an MPV or a mercedes benz instead of a cheaper compact car.

A degree too is a licence for us to get a job. If we want to get good paying jobs, we need to improve and  increase our skill sets. Only we ourselves set the limit to what we can achieve. Good luck!

The Tip of the Iceberg

From our science classes we know that the iceberg that  we can see above the sea level is only 10% its actual size. From this we normally hear people say, "it's only the tip of the iceberg", or "the problems that we face is only the tip of the iceberg", meaning the real problems are much more.

Using an iceberg ("the tip of the iceberg" to be precise) is one example of using an analogy.

We can also say "the wealth that you see is only the tip of the iceberg", meaning the actual wealth is much more than that!! 😃

A Good Cook vs a Good Writer

We know that we cannot become a good cook if we only keep collecting cookbooks. These cookbooks will definitely help us in our cooking, but it's the actual act of cooking, and keep on cooking that can help us become a good cook.

Similarly, to be a writer, we cannot rely on reading a lot and reading about how to write. Like cooking, we have to actually write, in our effort to be a writer!
